What you consume first thing in the morning is as important as having a healthy breakfast. Our body needs fluids, and going eight hours without them needs replenishment.“A morning drink will rehydrate you and give you the energy you need to keep you going. It will also help to clear your body of unwanted toxins,” says Samreedhi Goel, nutritionist and fitness expert, and founder of fitness studio Size Wise.

Most people like to start the day with a freshly brewed cup of tea or coffee to feel alert. But if it's a habit you can’t let go of, you can include that as well in your morning routine. “There are people who cannot do without their cup of tea or coffee. So it’s okay to start your day with a small cup of tea or coffee and then proceed to your morning drink of choice,” Goel adds.

Ready to kickstart your day on a healthy note? Here are five healthy morning drink recipes recommended by Goel for their amazing health benefits.

Yellow Tea For Boosting Immunity

Ingredients:

1. 2 cups water

2. ¼ tsp turmeric powder

3. 1-2 small cinnamon sticks

4. 1-2 cloves of cardamom

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients and break open the cardamom shell before adding it to the water. Bring the water to boil until it takes the colour of turmeric. Strain the drink and enjoy it hot.

Why: This recipe helps empty the bowels. Turmeric has immunity-boosting properties while cinnamon helps regulate sugar levels. The cardamom adds a fragrant flavour to the drink while also reducing inflammation.

Barley Water For Water Retention

Ingredients:

1. 1tbsp barley

2. 2 glasses of water

3. ½ lemon

Directions:

Soak 1 tbsp barley overnight in 2 glasses of water. In the morning, boil the water until the quantity reduces to 1.5 glasses. Squeeze the juice of the half lemon into the drink before consuming it.

Why: This morning drink is for women who face bloating during PMS due to water retention. Barley has a diuretic effect so it helps reduce water retention by increasing the production of urine.

Breakfast On-the-go Smoothie

Ingredients:

1. 1 glass of almond milk

2. 2 tbsp rolled oats

3. Few raisins

4. 2 almonds

5. 2 walnuts

6. 1 tsp chia seeds

7. 1 peeled apple

Directions:

Blend the apple and then add the almond milk. Pour it into a glass or bowl and top it with the dry fruits, oats, and chia seeds to serve.

Why: This high-fibre smoothie is a good choice if you don't have time to cook or eat an elaborate breakfast. It will easily keep you full for 2-3 hours as it has a combination of fruits nuts and fibre-rich oats. It works just as well as a post-workout breakfast option.

Cumin-Infused Water For Digestion

Ingredients:

1. 1 tsp cumin

2. 2 glasses of water

Directions:

Add 1 tsp cumin to 2 glasses of water and let it soak overnight. In the morning, boil the water until the quantity has reduced to half. Strain and drink while it is still lukewarm or hot as per preference.

Why: If you suffer from gas or acidity regularly, start your day with a glass of cumin-infused water. Cumin seeds stimulate gastric juices which helps improve digestion and reduces gas and acidity.
