Natural Remedies For Longer Lashes and Thicker Brows

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is an all-rounder when it comes to skin and hair benefits. If you grew up in an Indian household, you’re probably no stranger to a weekly scalp massage with coconut oil. For most of us, this was a mandatory weekly practice when we were kids as it helped promote hair growth. And while we thought it was just an old wives tale, there is now plenty of scientific research that proves otherwise. But coconut oil doesn’t only benefit your scalp. You can use this oil on your lashes and eyebrows as well to help them grow thicker.

How to apply it:

Eyebrows: Warm up a small amount of oil in your hands and massage it on the eyebrow area. Massage gently for a minute or so before going to bed and wash it off in the morning.

Lashes: You need to be a little careful while applying anything to your lashes. Instead of using your fingers, add a bit of coconut oil to a cotton ball and apply it to your upper and lower lashes. Be careful to not get any in your eyes. Rinse it off in the morning.

Lavender oil

Lavender oil is known for its calming aromatic effects, but when applied topically, it can also aid in hair growth. This oil is rich in antimicrobial and antibacterial properties but that’s not all. Certain studies have also shown that this oil contains components that generate cell growth.

Note: If you have allergies, make sure to first do a patch test 24 hours before using it on your brows and lashes.

How to apply it:

Lashes: Lavender oil is an essential oil and shouldn’t be used directly on the skin. It should always be mixed with carrier oil. Mix 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil with 2-4 drops of lavender essential oil. Add it to a cotton swab and apply it along with your eyelash roots and go all the way down to the ends of your eyelashes.

Eyebrows: Using your fingers, gently massage the mixture on your eyebrows as well.

Castor Oil

Castor oil may smell weird and have a strange thick texture, but this oil can do wonders when it comes to promoting hair growth. This oil is enriched with nutrients and fatty acids that enhance the health of the hair follicles which, in turn, improves hair growth and reduces hair fall.

How to apply it:

Lashes: Since castor oil is thick, it’s beneficial to use a cotton swab or clean mascara brush for the application process. Lightly coat the eyelashes, starting from roots and move down to the ends. Repeat this process few times a week.

Eyebrows: Take a bit on your finger and gently massage it on your eyebrows for a minute.

Lifestyle Changes

While oil helps speed up the hair growth process, you can also make a few lifestyle changes. These changes can help reduce the amount of hair fall and thinning.

When it comes to your eyebrows:

– Avoid over-plucking your brows.

– Do not press too hard while using brow pencils.

– Brush your eyebrows with an eyebrow brush or spoolie daily.

When it comes to your lashes:

– Eat a well-balanced diet that consists of nutrients like iron, zinc, vitamins, fatty acids, biotin, and proteins.

– Cleanse your eyelashes and eyelids daily with a mild cleanser.

– Avoid makeup products with toxic ingredients.
