3 home remedies to get rid of facial hair

We are stuck in a long quarantine period during the hottest months of the year. And all that overgrown facial and body hair is now making us itchy, sweaty and just needs to go!

Some women are enjoying being turned into furry bears with fully grown unibrow channeling Kajol from the 90s. But others, especially women with hirsutism are having tough time dealing with excess facial hair as salons are bound to stay shut for a long time.

You can’t just tune into a Zoom meeting with a client sporting a full grown moustache. Or even bushy unibrow and Wolverine-like sideburns for some of us.

While dealing with body hair is still manageable (you can just shave it off), you can’t shave your facial hair. Your facial skin is sensitive and you don’t want to end up with itchy razor bumps on your face.

Neither can you tweeze out all of it. It’s just too painful and time consuming too. This leaves us with home remedies for facial hair as the only option.

Before this salon culture became the norm, our moms and grandmas used natural home remedies to get rid of their facial hair. So call them up and we are sure they will share their beauty hacks with you too.

If you are suffering from hirsutism due to hormonal imbalances, drink a cup of spearmint tea everyday to reduce facial hair. You can also exfoliate your face regularly using gentle physical scrubs to reduce some of your peach fuzz.

  • Besan and Malai

This is by far the most popular and effective home remedy to remove facial hair. Not only is it painless, using it regularly is known to inhibit further facial hair growth too.

Things you will need:

  • 1 tbsp besan(chickpea flour)

  • ¼ tsp turmeric

  • 1 tbsp malai

  • ½ tbsp milk

  • Start by cleansing your skin well.

  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl to form a smooth paste.

  • Apply this paste on upper lips and other areas with unwanted facial hair in direction of the growth.

  • Let this paste sit on your skin until it is semi-dry.

  • Now start scrubbing this paste off your skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth. The scrubbing action will help pull off facial hair.

  • Wipe your face with wet, warm cloth to clean it thoroughly. Repeat these steps again  every 2-3 days to get rid of all the hair.

  • Egg Whites And Cornstarch

This home remedy is easy to use since all the ingredients are already present in your kitchen. Egg Whites are really sticky in nature which helps in removing facial hair by preparing a peel-off facial mask.

Things You Will Need:

  • 1 egg white

  • ½ tsp cornstarch

  • 1tsp sugar

  • In a medium sized bowl, whisk all the ingredients together until it forms a smooth face.

  • Apply a thin layer of this mask on your face in areas of hair growth.

  • Once the mask is completely dry, start peeling it off your face gently in the opposite direction of hair growth.

  • Rinse your face  thoroughly with water.

  • Gelatin And Milk

Gelatin is a thickening agent used in several desserts. But it is also a gentle and effective home remedy to remove all your unwanted facial hair in a jiffy.

Things you will need:

  • 1tbsp unflavored gelatin powder

  • 2 tbsp of milk

  1. In a glass bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of gelatin and 2 tbsp  of milk.

  2. Put the bowl into a microwave and heat for 15 seconds. You can also use a stove to melt the gelatin to make sure you don’t heat it too much.

  3. While the mixture is warm but not hot, use a popsicle stick or a butter knife to apply the mixture evenly on your upper lip and side burns. (Patch test it on the back of your hand to make sure it’s not too hot)

  4. Allow the mixture to dry completely on your skin. Once dry, start peeling it off against the direction of your hair growth.  Your facial hair will stick to the gelatin and come off easily.

  5. Rinse the area clean with water.
